NAPW Forest Hills, NY Chapter Hosted Direct Marketing Guru & Author Michelle Gill Newton at September Networking Event

Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on September 16th for a professional networking meeting at the Kew Gardens Community Center.

The group of professional women heard expert marketing tips from business coach, speaker and author Michelle Gill Newton, a former marketing manager in the publishing industry. Final plans for the Chapter’s upcoming fashion fundraiser on October 4th were discussed.

The meeting commenced with a welcome note from Anjali Chugh, Forest Hills Chapter President and was followed by a lively networking session.

The President made a few announcements about the upcoming fashion fundraising event to be held October 4th and gave an update about ticket sales to the attendees.

She encouraged members to contribute to the event’s raffle segment, participate as an exhibitor and to purchase tickets to the event. A significant number of attendees offered to volunteer at the event and to give away some attractive items as raffle prizes.

“The Forest Hills Chapter’s October 4th fashion fundraising event is a wonderful venue for business owners to showcase their products and/or services and for everyone to support a very worthy cause,” said President Chugh.

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit S.H.A.D., a nonprofit that provides healthcare services, support and education to low income, impoverished Haitian women, and their unborn babies, infected with the HIV/AIDS.

The Chapter President then introduced guest speaker Michelle Newton.

“Michelle Gill Newton is a wife and mother, home-based business coach, speaker and published author of Direct Sellers Secrets to Staying Inspired- Your SSI and e-book Sales in the Social Media Age: It Isn’t Just Door to Door Anymore, said President Chugh, as she invited the speaker to take the floor.

Ms. Newton told the group of professional women that she worked as a marketing manager for Time Warner Cable of New York City, Time Warner Inc. and then Doubleday Book Clubs.

In 2004, she was introduced to the industry that she fell in love with and where she found her passion: direct sales/network marketing. After the downsize of her corporate job and the abrupt closure of two direct sales companies she was a part of, Ms. Newton said she was inspired to write her first book.

Ms. Newton is now an independent sales consultant for Mary & Martha, a direct sales company. She regularly speaks at companies throughout New York City about how to stay motivated in business. She combines her passion for marketing, events and sales in her order to effectively run her business today.

The speaker’s presentation focused on creating different streams of income and identifying the right customer base for a business. Ms. Newton offered valuable tips to members and guests for achieving success in the business world, namely, the importance of branding a business, identifying target customers, understanding the needs and behaviors of potential customers, creating a niche, writing books, creating CDs or e-books, speaking at events and joining a networking organization of like-minded people such as NAPW.

“The easiest and fastest source of earning supplemental income is the Direct Selling Association (DSA),” said Michelle. “It’s a national trade association of some of the leading firms that manufacture and distribute goods and services directly to customers.”

Michelle became a part of DSA after she became a part of Mary & Martha as an independent business consultant. For details, visit her website http://www.mymaryandmartha.com/MGNEWTON/.

“Members and guests enjoyed the presentation very much. All agreed the interactive session was very helpful,” said President Chugh.

Meeting attendees included Michelle G. Newton, Alvertis Alexander, Dana Linton, Camelia Pruteanu, Donatellah Horvath, Cheryl Williams-Meggett, Carol Slotkin, Susan Myers, Marie Glennon, Juliet Williams, Cassandra Greene, Florence Robinson, Caroline Clement, Margaret Thomas, Cindy Francis and Anjali Chugh.

Professional Women of Forest Hills, NY Learned Tips for De-Stressing at NAPW Forest Hills Local Chapter Event in August.

Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on August 19th for aprofessional networking meeting at the Kew Garden Community Center.
The group of professional women got expert tips for staying calm and carrying on from certified wellness coach Juliette Austin. Members and guests also discussed upcoming Forest Hills Chapter fashion event on October 4th.

“Attendees had a great time networking and participating in yet another interactive workshop led by Juliette Austin, the founder of Wellness Muse,” said Chapter President Anjali Chugh.

“She kept everyone engaged in an incredibly interesting interactive workshop where she presented techniques to stay calm and let go of stress, even in the most pressing situations.”
The Chapter President kicked off the August networking meeting by welcoming the group of professional women and introducing the Forest Hills Chapter’s newest members.

After announcing that Paulette Vabrinskas was selected as a showcase member of the month, the President reminded members about the upcoming fashion event on Oct 4th. She requested members’ support and also encouraged the entrepreneurs in the group to participate as exhibitors at the event.
“It’s a wonderful venue for business owners to showcase their products and/or services,” said President Chugh.

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit S.H.A.D., a nonprofit that provides healthcare services, support and education to low income, impoverished Haitian women, and their unborn babies, infected with the HIV/AIDS.

The Chapter President encouraged attendees to visit http://www.shadonline.org for more information about the organization.

Guest speaker Juliette Austin, who specializes in thyroid conscious nutrition and wellness-focused lifestyle coaching, then began her presentation. Ms. Austin focused on helping members and guests achieve the following goals: increasing energy; overcoming depression; losing weight – and keeping it off; controlling food cravings; reducing medication and its side effects and feeling more in control of health and life without feeling deprived.

“When all that you know, willed, applied, and have done, doesn’t get you the results you wanted, a health coach is your helping hand. A coach will help you discover new approaches and the motivation to get to the next level,” said Ms. Austin.

The wellness coach explained to the group of professional women that when a person exceeds his personal threshold of stress tolerance, her body can respond either physically, emotionally or mentally.
Everyone’s breakdown is unique, she said. Ms. Austin also emphasized the importance of taking a simple assessment test before thinking of making any major changes in an existing lifestyle.
She suggested asking oneself questions such as: Do I give time to my priorities? Where am I spending too much/too little time? Why did I spend my time that way? Where do I waste time? What do I need to change? Who is controlling my time?

Ms. Austin impressed upon members and guests the importance of incorporating the following techniques into their daily regimens: practicing meditation; deep breathing; feeling gratitude; staying active, at least 30 minutes of regular physical activity can make a difference; getting a good night’s sleep; laughing; listening to music; meeting with friends; having sex (healthy, trusting and fulfilling intimacy); following a healthy lifestyle and diet and using key dietary and botanical supplements.

NAPW Forest Hills Chapter Attendees Learned How to Change their Attitudes from Negative to Positive at July Networking Event

Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on July 15th for aprofessional networking meeting at the Kew Gardens Community Center.

Guest speaker Jaye Corvino, a Certified Life Coach, focused her presentation on helping attendees learn how they can change their “I can’t” attitudes to “I can.”

“Forest Hills Local Chapter members had a great time networking and participating in an interactive workshop lead by Jaye Corvino, an incredibly gifted, Certified Life Coach,” said Chapter President Anjali Chugh.

“Jaye had been showcased in the Forest Hills Chapter Newsletter before and, as such, the members were already familiar with her talents and credentials to some extent.”

Attendees enjoyed networking and the “getting-to-know-each-other” session immensely, said the Chapter President. More than that, they took a keen interest in Ms. Corvino’s workshop and gave her their full attention. The manner in which the guest speaker presented certain life-changing techniques to the members and guests and the manner in which she handled all the questions put to her by the participants, was greatly appreciated and applauded by one and all.

“Jaye Corvino’s talk was compelling enough to help members reassess their life goals and priorities. She talked about her passion for helping people as a Life Coach, about setting realistic goals, changing ‘negative self talk’ into positive ‘take charge’ attitude and getting rid of mental blocks and self-defeating patterns,” said Chapter President Chugh.

Ms. Corvino encouraged members to set simple and achievable targets instead of ‘larger than life” goals. The simple goals, according to her, could be as simple as going to a gym, taking a dance class, visiting a place that one might have always wanted to, quitting a bad habit, leaving the office on time to spend some time with family, organizing a closet, starting a business and so on and so forth.

“It’s ok to push your goals off to another day but it’s not ok to push them off the radar,” advised Jaye Corvino.

The Certified Life Coach believes that taking care of oneself is as important as taking care of others.

“You make an appointment with everyone else, why not make an appointment with yourself?” she said.

Ms. Corvino then asked attendees to answer questions such as: What are you willing to change in order to achieve it? What commitment are you making to accomplish this goal? What new skills or knowledge do you need to succeed in this situation? Are you feeling stuck? If so, why and where are you feeling stuck? Who can support you? How will you feel when you reach your goal?

“Some simple questions from Jaye triggered a healthy and eye-opening discussion within the group,” said Chapter President Anjali Chugh. “At the end of the session, everyone felt great about the whole idea of having an honest discussion about personal strengths and weaknesses.”
Based on the excellent presentation by Jaye Corvino, she was invited by Lyson Basile, NAPW Jamaica Chapter President to speak at one of their upcoming Chapter meetings.

The following members and guests were in attendance at the July Forest Hills meeting: Jaye Corvnio, Juliette Austin, Margaret Thomas, Juliet Williams, Carol Slotkin, Alvertis Alexander, Lyson Basile, Maureen McLean, Chinasa Okafor, Delia Nelson, Miyoko Yamakawa, Catherine Arnow, Camelia Pruteanu, Sonya Martirosyan, Florence Robinson and Anjali Chugh.

Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on June 24th for a professional networking meeting to celebrate the Chapter’s one-year anniversary.

While addressing the members, President Newsome acknowledged how helpful it was for her as a Chapter President to create a Chapter Board, which was an important source of support.

She complimented President Anjali for doing the same and expressed confidence that the Forest Hills Chapter will continue to grow and succeed. She assured members that she would be most willing to offer any support and assistance as may be required for the growth of the Forest Hills Chapter. The objective of S.H.A.D. is to build a health clinic in Northwest Haiti, for catering to the health needs of young Haitian women, who have been getting absolutely no support from anywhere, said Marie Jose Santelli, the President of S.H.A.D. NAPW Forest Hills, NY Chapter Learned How Meditation Can Help Achieve Personal & Professional Success
Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on May 20th for aprofessional networking meeting at the Kew Gardens Community Center.
Chapter President, Anjali Chugh inspired the group of professional women with her life story and her belief in the positive role meditation can play in achieving personal and professional success.
The Chapter also discussed its upcoming fundraiser in September that will help young women in Haiti who suffer with HIV/AIDS.
Forest Hills Chapter President Anjali Chugh welcomed attendees, including the new members and guests.
A brief period was set aside to allow everyone to network, enjoy refreshments, introduce themselves and explain their purpose for joining the organization.
“The recent National Networking Conference was the first official introduction to the NAPW for some of the new members and they shared their experiences with the group. All were very positive. In fact, the conference has motivated the women to become more connected to other members,” said President Anjali Chugh.
Forest Hills Chapter member, Susan Meyers was congratulated for being selected as the Showcase Member of the Month. Susan is a Paralegal Professional and Owner of Designer Invitations Plus.
The President then announced that the Forest Hills Chapter will host a fundraiser in September to benefit “Soin Humanité Amour Dévouement” (SHAD).
SHAD is a nonprofit organization that cares for young women in Haiti who are suffering with HIV/AIDS.
Marie-Jose Santelli is the Founder/President and a Registered Nurse and valued member. She expressed her desire to share her passion for and commitment to this much-needed service at one of the Forest Hills Chapter meetings.
“Although the venue is not finalized yet, the event will most likely be held in Manhattan to encourage the participation and support of members across the Tri-state area,” said Anjali, who asked for members to volunteer for the event. “The goal should be to attract over 100 enthusiastic supporters.”
As the designated speaker for the evening, Chapter President Anjali shared a bit of her life’s journey and the process of transformation to frame the basis of her talk. She tried not to go into the intricacies of the subject so as to make it easier for members to assimilate the information.
She mainly focused on the necessity of transforming one’s life by breaking existing patterns and setting oneself free from living the same miserable life over and over again.
Her talk had the essential components of Zen and Eastern philosophy, primarily based on the concept of reincarnation and the purpose behind being born again and again.
“To break the existing life patterns you need to push your limits and step out of your comfort zone, but for being able to do so, you need to realize your true potential first,” said Anjali. “For knowing your strengths and using them to your advantage, you need to get to a point where you have a true measure of yourself and a deep ‘knowing’ of who you are.”
“Meditation is the only key to unravel the mysteries of the Universe and also the ‘real you,’” she added.
At this juncture, there was a brief interactive session between her and the attendees.
Anjali shared a simple beginners’ technique of meditation with members and guests.
They seemed to be interested and willing to attend the workshop that she intends to hold in the near future.
The Chapter President took the time to explain how meditation helps in calming the chaos in the mind, removing the clutter and strengthening the inner voice, which is the ultimate ‘guru’ of every soul.
“Meditation will help you gain clarity of your situation in order for you to make the right choices in pressing situations,” she added.
The message that was relayed to members and guests by President Anjali was that meditation helps in reprogramming and rewiring the mind and the set patterns and impressions that it carries. Once the rewiring is done, a person starts living in the moment rather than whining over the past or worrying about the future.
She told the group that meditation not only helps to reprogram one’s mind but also helps in keeping the body healthy and free of diseases, considering that most diseases are manifestations of a troubled mind.
The talk inspired many questions and comments from members and guests and many expressed a desire to explore meditation further.
Members who attended the May networking meeting included: Catherine Arnow, Susan Meyers, Juliette Austin, Christin Ottley, Jaye Corvino, Camilla Pruteanu, Daphne Dominik, Marie Jose Santelli, Chermerdene Jordan, Juliet Williams, Mamta Kochar and Anjali Chugh.

Professional Women of Forest Hills, NY Overcame Fear of Public Speaking at NAPW Forest Hills Chapter Event

Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on March 18th for a professional networking meeting at Kew Gardens Community Center.
The Chapter had invited Erica Prince, President of The Professional Speaker’s Bureau, as a guest speaker for the evening. Erica helped the group of professional women overcome their fear of speaking in public.
After welcoming members and guests to the Chapter’s networking event, the Chapter President introduced the guest speaker and invited her to share her presentation with the group.
“As President of a thriving Speaker’s Bureau, Erica Prince trains people to become effective speakers and encourages them to use this new-found strategy to build strong businesses,” said NAPW Forest Hills Local Chapter President Anjali Chugh.
“She engaged the attendees in a spirited discussion with her presentation, “Getting Rid of the Fear of Public Speaking.”
Ms. Prince shared her journey with the audience. She spoke about her dream of being a speech therapist and told members and guests how she “froze up” before a speech class.
Eventually, she said, she became a Page at the National Broadcasting Center. This job presented her with many opportunities to speak in public. She enjoyed it so much that it became her career.
“There are no perfect speakers,” Ms. Prince said. “A successful speaker, among all other things, is well-versed with his/her material.”
The guest speaker shared with the group one of her success stories concerning a Lawyer who wanted to build his practice but was afraid to speak in public. He worked hard to conquer his fear of public speaking and later became the owner of a successful small business.
“An enthusiastic conversation ensued when Erica asked everyone about their experience with public speaking,” said the Chapter President. “Most members expressed fear, but, she offered suggestions on how everyone could overcome that feeling of fear.”
Some tips suggested by Ms. Prince included:

  •     Knowing the material / subject.
  •     Practicing at home with friends or family.
  •     Focusing on one person or an empty chair from time to time. However, one must be careful not to become stuck doing this and forget others are in the room.
  •     Joining an interactive group such as Toastmasters.
  •     Getting feedback from people with experience.
  •     Working with a Coach.
  •     Choose creative titles for speeches. They sell and open doors.
  •     Build a database of all those who attend the events
  •     Publish a newsletter and mail to those in the database.

In addition, Ms. Prince emphasized the importance of public speaking and the impact it could have on one’s career. Wrapping up, she offered advice to those who might consider this genre as a strategy to increase visibility and grow their business:
“This was her strategy that caught the attention of Verizon and eventually, she developed a training system that the company offered to their successful business customers for two years,” said President Anjali.
After Ms. Prince’s informative presentation, the Chapter President gave an update on the Forest Hill Local Chapter’s upcoming fundraising event on April 18th. She reminded the group of professional women that proceeds from the ticket sales would be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
“Let’s all spend the next few weeks inviting friends and colleagues to ensure the event’s success,” said Ms. Chugh. “A special thank you to member Camelia Pruteanu for selling 18 tickets to date!”
The Chapter President told members and guests that donations will be accepted even from those who do not intend participating in the event. "All are welcome to donate one or more of their products to be used for raffle prizes." She said.
"Media Relations Chair Dana Linton will use her resources for ensuring media coverage at the event. Invitations will be sent to other local NAPW Chapters in New York," said Anjali Chugh.
Other announcements included:
Member Camelia Pruteanu took over as Co-Chair Event planning committee.
Jaye Corvino was chosen as the Showcase member for the month. During the Chapter meeting, she had the opportunity to give a five-minute talk about her corporate career at Toyota, and share her recent qualification as a Life & Professional Development Coach.
Attendees at the March networking event included: Karen Booker, Jaye Corvino, Karen Gerstman, Donatella Horvath, Chermerdene Jordan, Simona Nicu, Camelia Pruteanu, and Anjali Chugh.
(Chapter minutes were prepared by Chermerdene Jordan, Chairperson Communications Committee.)

Professional Women of Forest Hills, NY Learned to Get Creative with Videos at NAPW Forest Hills Chapter Event
Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on February 19th for aprofessional networking meeting at the Kew Garden Community Center in Queens.

Guest speaker Keith Muller, Founder and President of Muller Video Productions, demonstrated how the group of professional women could use video marketing to build an online presence for their businesses.

NAPW Forest Hills Local Chapter President Anjali Chugh welcomed attendees to the meeting and introduced Keith Muller to the crowd. A video veteran, Keith Muller literally grew up in the industry, working for his parents’ company on Long Island at the age of 13. For the last three years, Keith’s company has strived to provide small-to-medium businesses with cutting edge video marketing and web design services. Mr. Muller started his presentation by sharing with the group a number of videos that his company had developed for his clients.

The members were impressed to see how a short two-to-three-minute video could do wonders for any business.

“Google ranks video content higher than images and textual content on the internet. People like to be entertained and text just isn’t entertaining anymore,” explained Muller.

The guest speaker went on to discuss the importance of carving a niche and being able to separate oneself from the competition.

“Sixty to 90 seconds of good video is all you need to sell your product,” said Mr. Muller.

He also touched on the benefit of having testimonials as part of a business video.

“It allows for potential customers to see the diversity of your clientele in terms of age, race, ethnicity, gender, and geographic locations,” said Mr. Muller.

Before ending his presentation, Mr. Muller left members with some food for thought.

“If you want to be a prominent player in the big leagues, you have to get creative with branding yourself and your business,” said Mr. Muller in his closing statement.

President Anjali Chugh thanked Keith Muller for his time and for an outstanding presentation that was filled with helpful information and creative ideas that members found very useful.

“With the help of our guest speaker, members had an opportunity to understand the one key factor responsible for attracting clients and boosting business,” she said.

Anjali reminded members of the Chapter’s upcoming Hurricane Sandy fundraiser in April.

“I encourage everyone to come and support this very important cause,” she said.

During the networking meeting, Forest Hills Chapter member Camelia Pruteanu was randomly selected to be featured in the ‘Showcase’ segment of the Chapter Newsletter.

NAPW Forest Hills, NY Chapter Made Holidays Merrier for Children Affected by Hurricane Sandy

Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on December 20th for a professional networking meeting at Jade Eatery and Lounge, a popular Asian Fusion restaurant in Forest Hills. Attendees got together to celebrate the holiday season and to donate the toys they had collected for local children whose lives were affected by the super storm that devastated the East Coast in October.

“Members, who wanted to bring some cheer in the lives of children whose families are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Sandy, donated a number of toys,” said Forest Hills Chapter President Anjali Chugh. “We thank everyone for their generosity, particularly Board Member Janice Rimler for her efforts in obtaining a generous donation of stuffed animals and Star War books from Royal Collectibles, which is located at 96-01 Metropolitan Avenue.”

Chapter Board Member Gwyneth Anderson delivered the toys to the office of Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz for distribution. Her staff indicated that the toy deliveries would be completed by FEMA or a charity specifically working with Hurricane Sandy outreach efforts.
During the December Chapter meeting, Chapter President Anjali let guests know that the Forest Hills Local Chapter Board was planning a full slate of meetings and events in 2013 that would be helpful in helping members and guests reach their professional and life goals. She invited the Committee Chairs to expand on their particular areas of responsibility.

Janice Rimler, Chair of the Chapter’s Fundraising Committee, thanked everyone for their response to the toy outreach effort. She said this was the preparation for a larger fundraising effort, ‘It’s Not Over ‘til it’s Over’ being planned to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy.
”The event is scheduled for April 2013 and is designed to keep the effects of this terrible disaster ‘top of mind’,” said Janice. “I encourage everyone to participate to ensure the effort is a huge success.”

Gwyneth Anderson, Chair of the Mentoring Committee, alerted attendees of a Chapter Survey they’ll receive early in the New Year. She urged everyone to respond quickly since the Board will use the provided information to craft programs and events that address members’ needs and interests. She added that originally the Mentoring and Communications Committee were linked, but it was decided to separate them. As such, Chermerdene Jordan will assume the role of Communications Chair.

Karen Booker, Chair of the Event Committee, indicated that a number of speakers are already booked for various meetings in the New Year. All are experts in their respective areas and she encouraged her listeners to attend the events and bring their colleagues. She reiterated the importance of the Survey because it allows the Board to build a pipeline of interesting topics and speakers that can be confirmed in a timely manner.

“Our goal is to attract new members and to build a strong and dynamic NAPW Local Chapter in Forest Hills,” she added. “We can only do this if everyone participates.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, the women gathered around the toy display for photographs. The Chapter President also expressed her thanks to Raymond Taylor, Manager of Jade Eatery and Lounge, for all he did to make the Forest Hills Chapter feel welcome, including roping off a specific area that allowed for privacy.
Members who attended the December Forest Hills Local Chapter meeting were: Anjali Chugh, Gwyneth Anderson, Janice Rimler, Karen Booker, Chermerdene Jordan, Cassandra J. Greene, Catherine Arnow, Camelia Pruteanu, Karen Gerstman, Leah Chase, Lyson Basile, Shauna Saul, Katie Kuo Hwa and Asha Wahab.

Professional Women of NAPW Forest Hills, NY Chapter Learned The Personality Color Code from Guest Speaker at November Event

A NOTE FROM THE BOARD

We have enjoyed an impressive five months from the day this Chapter was launched.  THANK YOU.  We are sincerely grateful to our members for their participation and contributions because without you there would be no Forest Hills Chapter.  Our Chapter is also very grateful for the collaboration of the Jamaica & Bayside Chapters.

We want to serve our diverse membership as fully as we can but need YOUR input and communication.  In order for us to best serve our membership, we will be sending out a survey shortly asking you for your opinions, thoughts and suggestions about meeting topics, areas of interest, etc.  We look forward to your responses and thoughts.

BREAKING NEWS

Our Chapter has identified a permanent venue for the meetings!! W.e.f Jan 2013 we're going to hold our monthly meetings in Kew Gardens community center in Queens.
Finding appropriate space in the area has been challenging but we have succeeded in identifying a space that will allow for professional meetings and ample opportunity for rewarding discussions.
The Board looks forward to announcing shortly meeting dates and topics for 2013.

MONTHLY MEETING

Our members were treated to a very special presentation on Monday, November 26th by Karen Booker, Founding Member, The Bebe Group.   The focus of our evening was:  The Color Code Personality Profile – A New Way to See Yourself, Your Relationships, and Life.  This month’s event took place at Portofino Restaurant on Queens Boulevard.  Attendees were treated to a tasty array of Italian appetizers.

Karen Booker has enjoyed an impressive career in city government in several leadership roles with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development where she has been the leader and driving force behind HPD Housing Education Services’ (HES) long-standing history of developing and implementing complex and collaborative programs aimed at improving the housing conditions, health and quality of life for City residents.  In 2000, she founded the BeBe Group (www.thebebegroup.com), a full-service business development firm based in New York City.  Karen has a Masters in Professional Management and Policy Analysis from New School University and is presently pursuing her Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Change.

The basis of Karen’s presentation was ColorCode (www.colorcode.com), an assessment that helps you identify your personality “color” or type which helps you identify your “Core Motive”.  This awareness helps you better comprehend your own strengths and limitations and helps you more effectively relate to others in your life, both at home and at work.

This evening each participant completed a two-page multiple choice survey (each answer representing a color) and then tallied their results.  Karen then walked the group through the results and discussed the particular traits of each color and where there are strengths and limitations in that personality type.  The discussion was lively and informative for the participants.
The Chapter would like to thank Karen for her generosity of time and knowledge.

Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter Hosted Leah Chase, Personal Shopper and Coach
Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter met for a professional networking meeting on October 24th at Biu Bella. While enjoying wonderful brick oven pizza, season salad, and a chicken platter, attendees embarked on a networking session. They then received expert tips from Leah Chase, Founder and President of Excelsior You, on how to transform themselves, and consequently, change the way they are seen by others.
Using her 20 years experience as a Personal Shopper and Coach, Leah expertly showed the women how they could create a look that is fashionable and comfortable by making simple yet significant wardrobe changes.

“Leah’s presentation was engaging and very positive. She made it clear that creating our own personal style is important because how we see ourselves is how we present ourselves to the world,” said Forest Hills Chapter President Anjali Chugh.
Leah began her presentation by asking members and guests if they knew what their personal style is (some did, some did not) and suggested that the women identify their ‘signature style’ and then get a little creative with it. She also noted that a person’s signature style tends to change as she gets older.
Some notable fashion tips from Leah included:
·           * Fashion is an attitude
·           * Don’t wear what isn’t comfortable because t will quickly ruin you and your attitude
·           * Create balance in what you wear
The Personal Shopper and Coach continued her presentation by highlighting the importance of handbags in defining your fashion statement.
“Heavy bags are detrimental to your heart and your posture. Large bags take away the glamour from your outfit, so lighten up your bags,” she told the crowd. “Also, be conscious of where you are putting your bag.”

Leah suggested that women use a table purse hanger as an alternative to the floor or lap for placing their handbag(s) while they are at the table. Next, Leah moved on to shoes.
“Shoes! Select your shoes with care,” Leah said. She demonstrated the use of a shoe box and went on to say, “Select shoes that are comfortable. But then make sure you are caring for that investment. When storing your shoes consider shoe socks or nifty shoe boxes that can be stacked in your closet and are accessible and easy to view.”

Leah handed out a flyer to each member that highlighted ‘Ten Pocket Tips for Women on the Run’ and encouraged members and guests to ask questions relating to those tips. Some of the interesting tips were: a signature piece can be a focal point (a scarf paired with a nice broach or pin for instance); try not to focus too much on size – look for pieces that can be used in different ways or for different occasions; recognize what body shape you have and don’t dress to turn yourself into someone you are not; don’t buy what a salesperson tells you to; make sure you have a good range of classics in your closet – black dress, herringbone or tweed jackets, etc.
“These items are ‘multi-taskers’ and can be worn in many ways. Additionally those same pieces can be updated with jewelry, a scarf, etc.,” she told the audience.

“Leah demonstrated a number of fashion styles with the help of some wonderful women from our group,” said Anjali. “The members that volunteered were Chineze Okafor, Cassandra Greene, and Karen Gerstman.”

Members who attended the October Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter meeting were:
Wanda Philips, Owner Wanda Philips Signature Events;, Chinasa Okafor Ezeadichie, Accountant @ Nasa Accounting Services; Chineze Okafor, Accountant; Dartanya Straughn, Graphic Designer; Karen Booker, President Bebe Group; Ericka Williams, IT Specialist at FDA; Lyson Basile, Business Analyst; Karen Gerstman, Voice Actor; Gwyneth J. NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter Held Joint Networking Event with Jamaica Chapter
Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills, NY Local Chapter gathered on September 20th for a professional networking meeting at 104-60 Parker Towers in Forest Hills. The event was jointly organized by the Forest Hills, NY and Jamaica, Queens, NY Local Chapter Boards. The evening’s guest speaker was Fradel Barber, Executive Director of World Financial Group, who educated attendees about the necessity of managing finances and making secure investments.

“Everyone spent a great evening together networking, listening to Fradel Barber’s inspiring presentation, and enjoying the cocktail hour, which was organized by Janice Rimler, the Chairperson of the fundraising Committee of the Forest Hills Local Chapter,” said Chapter President Anjali Chugh.

As the Executive Director of World Financial Group (WFG), Fradel had much information to share with members and guests. She candidly told the group about her humble beginnings as one of 12 children in a household with no life insurance to how she used credit cards “like they were going out of style.” She spoke about how, ultimately, she found financial security and the ability to help others achieve the same once she joined WFG in 2003. Being in control of her own future was a big draw for her, Fradel explained to the audience in her presentation.

"I'm coachable, but I'm not good at being told what to do,” she said. “I am very independent by nature and I wanted freedom of time, freedom to go anywhere, and I wanted freedom to have multiple businesses."
Fradel took her passion for helping families such as her own and came on board with the company full-time in 2003. In 2007, she moved back to Brooklyn to open her second WFG office to help families in the neighborhood where she grew up.
"Once I made the decision [to go into business], I never really looked back," she said.
Fradel believes that World Financial Group is an extraordinary opportunity for people from all walks of life. The company helps people realize their dreams. WFG is a business platform that empowers people to create lucrative and lasting financial services businesses.

“Through WFG, our associates provide clients across the United States and Canada with the finest financial strategies and products available today. Right now having a business can be more secure than having a job because you get to decide if you stay there or not,” Fradel said. “Our opportunity allows people to start part-time, so they can still have their jobs and have a back-up career and eventually make this their full-time career.”
Fradel really captured everyone’s attention by focusing on the ‘independence’ aspect of business.
“Today, I can't imagine what it would be like to go to someone to ask for a day off. At the end of the day, that's what having your own business can afford you, if you build it right,” she advised.
”You can have that independence and not have to answer to anyone or be limited by how much money you can earn. You're only limited by yourself." She further said, “To have a positive impact on the people I come in contact with, I lead and inspire them to do great things and in the future that will go on to affect other people for generations to come.”

Fradel explained that WFG associates have the ability to offer products and services from a broad array of financial services providers, which allows the associates to find the very best solution for their clients. These solutions can come in many different forms, including insurance protection, retirement strategies, college planning, estate planning, business solutions, financial planning, and more.
World Financial Group offers people an uncommon opportunity to change careers and be in business for themselves but not by themselves. The company offers a variety of support functions through its Executive Headquarters located in Duluth, Ga., as well as powerful industry relationships, innovative training programs, and hands-on field mentoring, as well as a business model that can put a willing individual on the path to a brighter future.
“Fradel’s presentation was so informative and motivational that the members and guests were compelled to present her with an unending list of questions at the end of her presentation,” said Anjali.
Those who attended the networking event included: Fradel Barber (Guest Speaker), Janice Rimler (Owner, All Hands in Motion Professional Sign Language Interpreters LLC), Karron Franklin (Private Investigator), Dana Linton (CEO Hogland Variety LLC), Lyson Basile (Project Manager and Business Analyst), Cassandra J. Greene (Continued Medical Education Expert), Karen Gerstman (Voice Actor), Karen L. Booker (Senior Consultant BeBe Group LLC), and Anjali Chugh (Grief Counselor).

NAPW Forest Hills Local Chapter Held Monthly Networking Meeting and Discussed Challenges and Successes of Establishing a Business from Business Owner/Member Janice Rimler
Members and guests of the NAPW Forest Hills Local Chapter gathered on August 21st for a professional networking meeting at the offices of All Hands in Motion Professional Sign Language Interpreters LLC, located in Parker Towers. At the meeting, member Janice Rimler,
President of All Hands in Motion, a communication services provider for the deaf community throughout the New York metropolitan area, was the guest speaker.

After welcoming members and guests to the monthly networking meeting, Forest Hills Chapter President Anjali Chugh introduced Janice to the audience. Janice spoke to the crowd about the successes she’s experienced as well as the challenges she’s faced since establishing her business in 2006. Janice’s presentation was informative and relevant, filled with advice and tips about the ups and downs of owning a business, something many members and guests related to very well. ”In her presentation, Janice made it clear that following one’s passion is key to not only being successful but enjoying one’s work, as well,” said Anjali.

Prior to establishing her firm, which today represents 65 interpreters, Janice was the Coordinator of Interpreter Services for NY City College of Technology. Currently, Janice is very active in the deaf community and is constantly creating events and opportunities for the deaf community to come together and get all the help they need.

Language Instructor. The professionals represented, including interpreters and transcribers, work in their respective teams on assignments that build experience, competency, and interest.
Involved in the New York City Deaf Community since 1981, socially and professionally, Janice has been an Executive Board member of New York Deaf Theatre, held several Board positions in the local chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NYC METRO R.I.D.) including President, has served as a board member of the New York City chapter of American Sign Language Teachers Association, and has volunteered in other areas of the community.
Janice’s presentation reinforced the idea that having the knowledge in the first place, and the skills to implement that ‘know-how’ in the work that one loves to do, is critical to establishing a successful and thriving business.
“These are the components that ultimately become the driving force for doing and enjoying the work one does every day,” Janice told members and guests.

Toward the end of the meeting, President Anjali spoke about several issues that are critical to the successful development of NAPW Forest Hills Local Chapter. Chief among the concerns expressed was the need for proper meeting space that provides an ample space for members to attend comfortably and is conducive to a professional meeting. Second, there was a discussion about future Forest Hills Local Chapter meeting topics and the expectations that Chapter members have from NAPW, and the help they need as they continue to strive for achieving their professional goals. Anjali also brought to the attention of the attending members, the areas of support available for members within the group.

“NAPW, apart from being a professional networking organization, can also be a resource for personal support for those who need it,” said Anjali.

Ms. Jordan’s presentation was compelling enough to arouse the interest of the attendees in Reliv nutritional products and they could see Reliv as a tremendous business opportunity that had the potential to change peoples’ lives in US and around the world. In a Q/A session, following the presentation, Chermerdene informed the members that the products, as per policy, are distributed by a network of independent distributors who’ve had life changing results and are now making sure that others with health challenges reap the same benefits. She added that the Company’s mission is to ‘Nourish the World’ and that the mission is accomplished through the dedicated efforts of distributors and the Kalogoris Foundation, feeding over 42,000 children around the world everyday with patented & balanced nutritional products.
